I Solemnly Swear That I Am Up to No Good

Today my mom and I went to Kensington's Diagon Alley, but don't worry...we didn't expose the Wizarding world.

We took a train to Sunnyside Station. I thought it was called Sunny Side because Sunny Side eggs were made there.  Ha, ha!  On the train we saw many people in robes, cloaks, capes, and costumes from Harry Potter.  Most of the people wore the colours of Griffyndor.  I am a Griffyndor, too.  When we arrived at Sunnyside, we saw that the name of the station had been changed to King's Cross, and there was a Platform 9 3/4.  Almost everyone had a photo taken with those signs.

What the Diagon Alley was, was that all the shops inside a quadrilateral (that's a four-sided shape) had changed their names to represent Hogwarts and places inside the Harry Potter books and they had a lot of interesting decorations up.  There were owls, balloons, and even people dressed up.  I saw Professor Dumbledore with the Tri-Wizard Tournament cup, Professor McGonagal with her cat, and even Mad-Eye Moody walking around.  Many shops were selling Butterbeer and Pumpkin Pasties.  Most of the shops had really long lines...the longest ones were for Crave cupcakes and Cobb's breads.

There were some booths set up as well and I bought a few things from them.  I bought black slime, a wooden wand made of spruce with the hair of an eagle in the middle of it and it is 13 inches long, a white quill which was to remember Hedwig, and a parchment that had Mischief Managed written on it in calligraphy.  I also got a special wand...it was a twig with a feather attached to it, and when I said Wingardiam Leviosa, the feather rose up in the air.

We stayed there for about an hour because it was very hot and it was very crowded.  I'm going to go back again next year.  Until then...mischief managed!

Is It Yeehaw Or Yahoo?

Over the summer my family went to a lot and I mean A LOT of stampede breakfasts.

The first one we went to was at Creekside Co-op. The Co-op wasn't to far away from my house. At the stampede there was of course a really long line but it moved quickly.  For breakfast we had pancakes, sausages and an orange or apple juice box. I wanted to go into the bouncy castle but I am too big. While eating there was a singer singing Canadian songs and I saved a balloon! The balloon was floating away from a baby and I chased after it and returned it.

The second breakfast was for Family Day at the Stampede.  It was fun.  Again there was a long line for breakfast but to pass the time I played a virtual  reality truck game. The people who worked there taught me how to ''drive'' the car and put some goggles on me. When they put those on me I was put into the game! My car was called Clean Finish, and I came in second place! We got the same thing to eat. We ate and played some games and then we went home.

The third breakfast was in the neighborhood. We went to the plaza near my house and got breakfast.
It was raining a lot so we sat in the car and ate. After we ate we went back home and just relaxed. I watched Master Chef on On Demand. I watched ep. 3.

The fourth breakfast was at Market Mall. There was music and a long line. It was raining again so we went inside to eat our pancakes.  We got a bit wet but they were still good. After we ate we went to Kernels and bought some popcorn. We got Say Cheese Cheese. They were very, very yummy. When we were done we went to the dentist for an appointment.

The fifth breakfast was at Dalhousie Station and all we did was eat and go home where I watched some of The Amazing Race Canada.

The sixth breakfast was at Crowfoot Co-op but we did not go because I told my mom that there were pancakes coming out of my ears and I was sweating maple syrup.

I can't wait to have pancakes again next year!

Another Year Older

On July 7th 2008 I was born, and now in 2017 I am nine. Want to know what I did on my birthday? Of course you do.

So, the first thing I did was wake up screaming  "it's my birthday" over and over again. I woke my sister up and we got ready for my b-day (birthday). After we got ready we drove all the way to my favourite breakfast place ever...IHOP. I ordered five big buttermilk pancakes, banana pennies, strawberries, Nutella  and strawberry lemonade. It was awesome but of course I didn't finish all of it.

After we ate, we went to see Smurfs: The Lost Village. It was amazing! That is all I can say...really...I have no words.

After we watched the movie, we went to a place even better than Flying Squirrel.  Injanation!!! It had American Ninja Warrior obstacles and rock climbing, but best of all, it had trampolines. The obstacles were easy and hard. I almost did everything but I couldn't do all of the ring monkey bars.

At the rock climbing station, we had to put on harnesses because it is always safety first. But the harnesses hurt so much! Anyway, there were four types of rock climbing stations. The first one was a spiral, the second one was a climbing rope, the third one was a normal rock climbing wall and the fourth was a rock climbing wall that timed you.

My sister and I played on the trampolines. We played dodge ball on them and my sister started singing the song "he's a pirate" from Pirates of the Caribbean. We played a lot and I hurt my shoulder. After we played doge ball, we went to the big trampolines and did tricks. We stayed for an hour and then we left.

The last thing we did was bowling. I got one hundred and one points and my sister got one hundred and six points, so she won. When we were on our way home, we got an ice cream cake. At home, we Skyped my dad and opened presents, and cut the cake.  Now I am nine years old!

A Trip Back In Time

One day there were some little Sparks who went to the wrong barn.  They were supposed to go to the red barn but they went to the grey barn instead.

Hi everyone! Sorry I did not post a blog in like a month but I was really busy with competitions, recitals and classes but now school is done and I can get back to my blogging. In my Language Arts class, we learnt about ways to get the reader's attention when writing a story.  One of the ways, is to write an opening that will make the reader want to find out more.  I started my story in the above paragraph.  If I have your attention and you want to find out more, please continue to read my story, below.

On June 24th, I went on a sleepover at Heritage Park with my mom, sister and the Sparks unit that my mom leads. In case you are wondering, Sparks is the youngest level in Girl Guides. As I already said, we went to the wrong barn and had to drive all the way to the other barn. Once we got there, we met Brenna, who was in charge of the barn and was taking care of us. You should know that even though it was a barn, there were no animals inside, but bunk beds, a kitchen and a dining area.  First we went and chose bunk beds and who you were sharing a bunk bed with. I was sharing a bunk bed with my sister. My sister was on the bottom and I was on top. My sister and I had already decided that we would be partners.

After we set up our sleeping bags and our pillows and all that jazz, we headed to the tables for dinner.  There was Caesar salad, pizza, juice boxes, and brownies.  After dinner, we had a fire drill and a short tour of the park.  On our way back, we saw a deer and I was able to tell everyone that it was a white-tailed buck because I had learnt about them at school this year.  When we got back to the barn, we went upstairs to do some activities.

There were many activities for us to do and we took turns at each station.  There were old-fashioned toys for us to play with.  There was no tv or internet in the old days so the kids had to play with only these toys.  They also spent a lot of time outside.  There was also a box of wooden log pieces and we had to build cabins using them.  I learnt how to write in cursive handwriting using chalk and slates.

There was a craft station where we made paper fans and then we learnt that if girls held the fan in certain ways, they were speaking in code to the boys, at dances.  Some of the things they were saying were "dance with me", "go away", and "you may kiss me" - yuck!  We also learnt a dance and some of us were boys and some of us were girls.  My sister and I were boys but her partner was a lot shorter than her and kept doing her own thing, so my sister kept looking at my mom with a confused face.  Mom couldn't help because she was too busy laughing!  The whole dance was really funny!

My favourite activity was making ice cream.  We put all the ingredients into a churner with lots of ice and the whole time that we were doing the activities, the ice cream had to be churned so whoever was free did that.  We knew that the ice cream was getting ready because it kept getting harder to turn the handle.

After the activities were done, we went back downstairs for a snack before bedtime.  We ate popcorn and the ice cream that we had made.  It was the best vanilla ice cream that I have ever eaten!  After a quick story, we went to sleep.  We were all very tired.

The next morning, we had to pack up our gear first and make sure that we did not forget anything.  The bakery at Heritage Park made our breakfast and we got to eat fresh and hot pastries, muffins, and sausage rolls.  There was also fruit, yogurt, and juice but the sausage rolls were my favourite.  Before leaving the park, we had time for a scavenger hunt and we went around the town finding clues and answering questions.

It was a great sleepover, and we all had a lot of fun.  I'm going back again in October and I can't wait!

Spring Break - part 3

Hello!  In my last blog, I ended it with unpacking in Mexico.  After we unpacked, we went down to the snack bar near the pool.  At the snack bar, I ate mac-n-cheese, fries and carrots.  I wanted to go in the pool, but my mom said that we had had a long day and we should get some sleep.  I was a little sad because I couldn’t swim right away, but we had seven days of vacation left.

After we got ready for bed, I sat out in the balcony and watched the birds fly; it was so amazing. As I went in, I started to feel really sleepy. I got in to bed and took off my glasses and went to sleep. That was my first sleep in Mexico! In the morning my dad woke my sister and I up by moving the curtains so the sun was shining on our faces. We woke up groaning as the sun felt like cooked eggs on our foreheads. I quickly got dressed because today we were going to the pool!

When we got to the pool I jumped in and came right out because the water was freezing. Then my sister came and pulled me in. I was really scared but I remembered to hold my breath. After that the water started to get warmer. I started to swim and after about half an hour of swimming I got out and went to the beach. It was my first time at a beach! I played in the waves and… got completely wet! Good thing there were showers at the beach! I got off all the sand and we went back to our room.

We had buffet dinners every night and watched a different show each day.  In the morning, it was swimming and the beach, every day.  We spent a whole week doing only this and it was great!  This was the best Spring Break ever!  I can’t wait to go back every year and spend a whole week in sunny Mexico!
