It's been a slow and lazy week, and I've been doing nothing! It feels great to be able to do nothing during the summer. Once September comes around, I'll become very busy again.
Every year, the community that I live in puts on an outdoor event called Movie in the Park. I've been going to it for a couple of years and it's fun. A HUGE screen is set up and families bring chairs, blankets, and snacks, and we get to see a movie. In previous years, I've watched Home and Zootopia at this event.
Yesterday was Movie in the Park for this summer and I went with my mom. This year, the movie that they showed was The Boss Baby. It is a really funny movie and there were many parts where I was laughing out loud.
The Boss Baby is about a baby that is a manager at the baby factory. Adults have started loving puppies more than babies, and the boss baby is sent to investigate and stop the adults from giving all their love to the dogs. If that happens, then the baby factory will go out of business.
Mom and I had to take our folding chairs and blankets, as it was quite cold and windy. I ended up wearing a sweater, toque, Snuggie, and had two blankets around me, to keep me warm and cozy. We also took snacks to eat. There was popcorn, cheese, cheese buns, water, and juice. Yummy! I ate quite a bit of everything!
There were quite a few people there already when we arrived at the field, but we found a good spot and the screen was so big, that people who came after us and sat behind us, were still able to see. Although it was chilly, a lot of families were there and many more kids.
The movie ended quite late and it was beautiful to see all the stars in the sky. At the end of the event, everyone quickly packed up their stuff so that they could get back to their warm homes. Even though we live very close to the field where the event was happening, Mom had brought the car, and that was a good thing because it was freezing by then.
The Movie in the Park event is the last thing that the community puts together for the summer and it lets people know that school will start soon. I'm actually happy that school will begin in two weeks...I can't wait to see my teacher and friends.
I wonder what movie I'll get to see next year...

Taste Of Calgary
Today my sister, mom and I went to Eau Claire Market, in Calgary. There were a lot of food stands and food trucks. We went to a food truck to get some butter chicken with rice and the food truck was called Kurry Up. We were going to the wading pool but before that we got some ice cream. They were not popsicles; they were Mini Melts!
The wading pool looked like a normal swimming pool except that the water was really shallow. There was also a playground on the other side of the pool. There were two separate pools with different water temperatures. I stepped into one pool and it was freezing!!!!! I started to walk around in the pool but it was so cold that it was making my legs burn. Then I tried to sit down in the water but it took a while to sit down completely. Once I did, I started to swim a bit. It was very shallow so my hands were on the bottom and my tummy almost touched the bottom, too. My tummy was skinning the floor of the pool. I swam for a long time and then went into the second pool. This pool was warm. It had the same depth as the first pool. More kids were in the warm pool. I swam for a long time and went back to my sister. My mom had gone to get more samples of food for my sister and myself. I went back to the cold pool and swam just for a little bit, and then got changed because it was quite windy and overcast. After I got changed, I had my butter chicken and ice cream.
There were so many food stands and food trucks that it was impossible to eat from all of them. We picked and chose and this is what we ended up eating:
Me - butter chicken with rice, vanilla Mini Melts, chow mein with chicken balls and ginger beef (I gave the ginger beef to my sister), chicken spring roll, mac and cheese with bacon.
My sister - butter chicken with rice, cookies and cream Mini Melts, chow mein with chicken balls and ginger beef, mac and cheese, poutine, coco churros with caramel filling.
Everything was a small portion but even then it was a lot of food. We ended up bringing half of it home and ate it for dinner.
As we were leaving the market, it started to rain. Our car was parked two blocks away and we had to speed walk all the way, but it was still a fun day.

Summer Television
Hi! It's been a very slow week, so I am just going to write about the shows I have been watching on tv.
The first show is called, "Total Drama Island". It is just like "Survivor", except that it is a cartoon. "Total Drama Island" is a show where teams go through a series of challenges that tests them both physically and mentally. The teams are Team Bear and Team Dolphin. Whichever team lost a challenge, they would have to go to an elimination ceremony, where they have to vote a team member off the island.
The second show is called, "American Ninja Warrior". In that show, people go through a series of obstacles. First they will have to train and then be invited to be on the show. First they will go through Qualifiers. If they pass they will go to The City Finals. If they finish that, they will go to Vegas to compete in the finals. Whoever wins the competition will be crowned American Ninja Warrior.
The third show is called, "Master Chef"and this show is about 24 home cooks going head-to-head in a battle to be crowned Master Chef. There are two types of challenges. In the Mystery Box Challenge, the contestants will have to use whatever ingredients are in a randomly chosen box, to cook a stunning dish that will impress the judges. The winner gets an advantage in the competition. There is also a team challenge. Here, the cooks are divided into two teams and they cook against each other. The winning team is safe and the losing team has to go through a pressure test. At the end of this test, someone will be going home...dun, dun, duuuuuun!
The fourth show is called, "America's Got Talent". People come from all over the country to show off their talents, like singing or dancing. If the judges don't like the act, they hit a buzzer, and your journey ends. If the judges press the golden buzzer, that means they love you and you go straight to the finals.
The fifth show is called, "Amazing Race Canada". I really like this show because of all the travelling that they do. The tasks and challenges are quite hard but fun to watch. At the end of each leg, one team gets eliminated and goes home. I felt really sad whenever a team that I liked had to go home.
The last show is called, "World of Dance" and it is my favourite show. There are so many wonderful dancers and they are all amazing. I am also a dancer and I like to watch them and pick up tips and tricks from them.
These are the shows that I am watching over my summer vacation. I don't want to give away too much about the shows because then it would be spoilers. I really hope that you will also watch these shows because they are all very good and entertaining.
See you next week, and happy watching tv!!!!!

I Solemnly Swear That I Am Up to No Good
Today my mom and I went to Kensington's Diagon Alley, but don't worry...we didn't expose the Wizarding world.
We took a train to Sunnyside Station. I thought it was called Sunny Side because Sunny Side eggs were made there. Ha, ha! On the train we saw many people in robes, cloaks, capes, and costumes from Harry Potter. Most of the people wore the colours of Griffyndor. I am a Griffyndor, too. When we arrived at Sunnyside, we saw that the name of the station had been changed to King's Cross, and there was a Platform 9 3/4. Almost everyone had a photo taken with those signs.
What the Diagon Alley was, was that all the shops inside a quadrilateral (that's a four-sided shape) had changed their names to represent Hogwarts and places inside the Harry Potter books and they had a lot of interesting decorations up. There were owls, balloons, and even people dressed up. I saw Professor Dumbledore with the Tri-Wizard Tournament cup, Professor McGonagal with her cat, and even Mad-Eye Moody walking around. Many shops were selling Butterbeer and Pumpkin Pasties. Most of the shops had really long lines...the longest ones were for Crave cupcakes and Cobb's breads.
There were some booths set up as well and I bought a few things from them. I bought black slime, a wooden wand made of spruce with the hair of an eagle in the middle of it and it is 13 inches long, a white quill which was to remember Hedwig, and a parchment that had Mischief Managed written on it in calligraphy. I also got a special wand...it was a twig with a feather attached to it, and when I said Wingardiam Leviosa, the feather rose up in the air.
We stayed there for about an hour because it was very hot and it was very crowded. I'm going to go back again next year. Until then...mischief managed!

Is It Yeehaw Or Yahoo?
Over the summer my family went to a lot and I mean A LOT of stampede breakfasts.
The first one we went to was at Creekside Co-op. The Co-op wasn't to far away from my house. At the stampede there was of course a really long line but it moved quickly. For breakfast we had pancakes, sausages and an orange or apple juice box. I wanted to go into the bouncy castle but I am too big. While eating there was a singer singing Canadian songs and I saved a balloon! The balloon was floating away from a baby and I chased after it and returned it.
The second breakfast was for Family Day at the Stampede. It was fun. Again there was a long line for breakfast but to pass the time I played a virtual reality truck game. The people who worked there taught me how to ''drive'' the car and put some goggles on me. When they put those on me I was put into the game! My car was called Clean Finish, and I came in second place! We got the same thing to eat. We ate and played some games and then we went home.
The third breakfast was in the neighborhood. We went to the plaza near my house and got breakfast.
It was raining a lot so we sat in the car and ate. After we ate we went back home and just relaxed. I watched Master Chef on On Demand. I watched ep. 3.
The fourth breakfast was at Market Mall. There was music and a long line. It was raining again so we went inside to eat our pancakes. We got a bit wet but they were still good. After we ate we went to Kernels and bought some popcorn. We got Say Cheese Cheese. They were very, very yummy. When we were done we went to the dentist for an appointment.
The fifth breakfast was at Dalhousie Station and all we did was eat and go home where I watched some of The Amazing Race Canada.
The sixth breakfast was at Crowfoot Co-op but we did not go because I told my mom that there were pancakes coming out of my ears and I was sweating maple syrup.
I can't wait to have pancakes again next year!

Another Year Older
On July 7th 2008 I was born, and now in 2017 I am nine. Want to know what I did on my birthday? Of course you do.
So, the first thing I did was wake up screaming "it's my birthday" over and over again. I woke my sister up and we got ready for my b-day (birthday). After we got ready we drove all the way to my favourite breakfast place ever...IHOP. I ordered five big buttermilk pancakes, banana pennies, strawberries, Nutella and strawberry lemonade. It was awesome but of course I didn't finish all of it.
After we ate, we went to see Smurfs: The Lost Village. It was amazing! That is all I can say...really...I have no words.
After we watched the movie, we went to a place even better than Flying Squirrel. Injanation!!! It had American Ninja Warrior obstacles and rock climbing, but best of all, it had trampolines. The obstacles were easy and hard. I almost did everything but I couldn't do all of the ring monkey bars.
At the rock climbing station, we had to put on harnesses because it is always safety first. But the harnesses hurt so much! Anyway, there were four types of rock climbing stations. The first one was a spiral, the second one was a climbing rope, the third one was a normal rock climbing wall and the fourth was a rock climbing wall that timed you.
My sister and I played on the trampolines. We played dodge ball on them and my sister started singing the song "he's a pirate" from Pirates of the Caribbean. We played a lot and I hurt my shoulder. After we played doge ball, we went to the big trampolines and did tricks. We stayed for an hour and then we left.
The last thing we did was bowling. I got one hundred and one points and my sister got one hundred and six points, so she won. When we were on our way home, we got an ice cream cake. At home, we Skyped my dad and opened presents, and cut the cake. Now I am nine years old!

A Trip Back In Time
One day there were some little Sparks who went to the wrong barn. They were supposed to go to the red barn but they went to the grey barn instead.
Hi everyone! Sorry I did not post a blog in like a month but I was really busy with competitions, recitals and classes but now school is done and I can get back to my blogging. In my Language Arts class, we learnt about ways to get the reader's attention when writing a story. One of the ways, is to write an opening that will make the reader want to find out more. I started my story in the above paragraph. If I have your attention and you want to find out more, please continue to read my story, below.
On June 24th, I went on a sleepover at Heritage Park with my mom, sister and the Sparks unit that my mom leads. In case you are wondering, Sparks is the youngest level in Girl Guides. As I already said, we went to the wrong barn and had to drive all the way to the other barn. Once we got there, we met Brenna, who was in charge of the barn and was taking care of us. You should know that even though it was a barn, there were no animals inside, but bunk beds, a kitchen and a dining area. First we went and chose bunk beds and who you were sharing a bunk bed with. I was sharing a bunk bed with my sister. My sister was on the bottom and I was on top. My sister and I had already decided that we would be partners.
After we set up our sleeping bags and our pillows and all that jazz, we headed to the tables for dinner. There was Caesar salad, pizza, juice boxes, and brownies. After dinner, we had a fire drill and a short tour of the park. On our way back, we saw a deer and I was able to tell everyone that it was a white-tailed buck because I had learnt about them at school this year. When we got back to the barn, we went upstairs to do some activities.
There were many activities for us to do and we took turns at each station. There were old-fashioned toys for us to play with. There was no tv or internet in the old days so the kids had to play with only these toys. They also spent a lot of time outside. There was also a box of wooden log pieces and we had to build cabins using them. I learnt how to write in cursive handwriting using chalk and slates.
There was a craft station where we made paper fans and then we learnt that if girls held the fan in certain ways, they were speaking in code to the boys, at dances. Some of the things they were saying were "dance with me", "go away", and "you may kiss me" - yuck! We also learnt a dance and some of us were boys and some of us were girls. My sister and I were boys but her partner was a lot shorter than her and kept doing her own thing, so my sister kept looking at my mom with a confused face. Mom couldn't help because she was too busy laughing! The whole dance was really funny!
My favourite activity was making ice cream. We put all the ingredients into a churner with lots of ice and the whole time that we were doing the activities, the ice cream had to be churned so whoever was free did that. We knew that the ice cream was getting ready because it kept getting harder to turn the handle.
After the activities were done, we went back downstairs for a snack before bedtime. We ate popcorn and the ice cream that we had made. It was the best vanilla ice cream that I have ever eaten! After a quick story, we went to sleep. We were all very tired.
The next morning, we had to pack up our gear first and make sure that we did not forget anything. The bakery at Heritage Park made our breakfast and we got to eat fresh and hot pastries, muffins, and sausage rolls. There was also fruit, yogurt, and juice but the sausage rolls were my favourite. Before leaving the park, we had time for a scavenger hunt and we went around the town finding clues and answering questions.
It was a great sleepover, and we all had a lot of fun. I'm going back again in October and I can't wait!
